What is RedBeacon?


Redbeacon is one of the most celebrated new startups in Silicon Valley! We're on a multi-year journey to change the way people find and book local services on the Web. Our San Mateo-based company was started to help people find the right local business or professional to handle virtually any local service need. At Redbeacon, you can request a service (e.g., mover, carpet cleaner, photographer, etc.), and local professionals will receive your request and submit price quotes and appointment times. You'll be shown profile information about each service provider, the price they'll charge for the job, their ratings and reviews, and which friends or professional organizations endorse them. When you see an option you like, you can accept the price quote and schedule the appointment online at the touch of a button.


What will you do?


As lead designer you will work closely with engineers and product teams throughout all stages of the product cycle and have the authority and ability to make strong and quick design decisions. You will be responsible for all aspects of the interaction and visual design of Redbeacon, as well as conducting user research and creating user models. You will develop high-level storyboards, mockups/wireframes and prototypes to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas, and then deliver high-fidelity mocks and/or HTML/CSS to the engineering team. You will also be responsible for growing the design team as Redbeacon grows.

What are we looking for?

  • At least 3-5 years of work experience, start-up experience a plus
  • Extraordinary product, interaction, and visual design talent
  • Outstanding portfolio of proven, innovative, solid work with significant experience working on web applications
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, agile environment
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Extensive knowledge of typography, organization and modularity, and grid systems and web design standards
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript/jQuery
  • Deep passion for Redbeacon's mission and vision, and a passion for simple, elegant and intuitive user interfaces.
  • Clear communication, organization, and writing abilities.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent

Big pluses
  • Academic background in human-computer interaction or a related field
  • Experience working in a start-up environment
